Paisley may be the last hope of saving Tara
Dick Roche’s parting shot as Environment Minister to have the Lismullen henge ‘preserved by record’ only willinflict the most damage on our priceless archaeological heritage.
This nation deserves better than that departing act of vandalism against our heritage.
The Government of which he is now a smaller part has a duty to rescind his dreadful decision to eliminate this newly-discovered national monument .
As our heritage belongs to the people of the entire island, it is important that the involvement of the Northern Ireland Executive is sought on this issue. First Minister Ian Paisley and his executive may have a far more informed opinion on Tara and its overall importance than the Dublin Government.
The opinions of some archaeologists — like those of lawyers — are couched in terms favourable to their clients and must be regarded with due caution.
If we as the people of the island as a whole truly care about Tara, let us stand together and demand action now by pressurising every public representative — North and South — to prevent this crime.
