Now let’s have a critical look at Islam

YOU carried a full-page feature article by TP O’Mahony who was highly critical of Pope Benedict XVI (July 12).

Now let’s have a critical look at Islam

One wonders why you published it?

Might I remind Mr O’Mahony that popes are appointed under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and if God wanted TP to be Pope, he would have made the appropriate arrangements.

If he is annoyed by Pope Benedict’s criticism of Islam, perhaps he should have a chat with the recently knighted Salman Rushdie.

Was it not Jesus Christ, the founder of the Catholic Church, who said “let him who is without sin among you cast the first stone”?

Perhaps Mr O’Mahony might devote a future article to a corrosive criticism of Islam. He will find plenty of material, if he has the courage to do so.

Mr O’Mahony also informs us that Hans Kung “compared the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith under Ratzinger to the Soviet KGB”.

The most obvious conclusion from that remark is that neither Kung nor O’Mahony has the remotest understanding of the Soviet KGB.

If they have, then they are underscoring a remark once made by GK Chesterton: “Any stick will do with which to beat the Catholic Church”.
