Selective responses

I THINK Fergal O’Neill (Letters, July 9) missed the point of my slightly tongue-in-cheek letter (June 26) on the contrast between nationalist anger at young Paisley’s comments on homosexuality and the virtually silent response to similar statements from the Pope.

Selective responses

In any event, I would caution Mr O’Neill on taking sexual moral guidance from the Vatican whose silence on the child sex abuse scandals was deafening. The present Pope was chief architect of an attempted cover-up of these horrors in 2001 when he wrote to bishops requiring them to report all such cases to his doctrinal congregation andimposing ‘pontifical secrecy’ on them.

Reminds me of the fox promulgating the chicken-house rules.
