GM-free zone is simply impossible to guarantee

RICHARD AULER (Letters, July 2) is correct to note that developments within the GM field are rapid, but something that is long-standing is the scientific fallacy of a ‘GM-free zone’.

No testing company can guarantee 100% GM-free feed shipments and the Food Safety Authority’s testing has regularly found food labelled as GM-free to be false and misleading.

This is compounded by the fact that Environment Minister John Gormelyrecently voted at the EU Environment Council to allow products to be labelled organic even if they contain GMOs. So much for the Green’s GM-free policy?
