Story of the governess

I am undertaking research on governesses in Ireland in the early years of the last century.

I would like to hear from anyone who worked as a governess or private tutor for girls before 1939 — or from anyone who received part of their education in the care of a resident or visiting governess in the home at any time before this date.

They formed a significant, but overlooked, proportion of female teachers in those times. I would be happy also to hear from anyone who would like to participate in this research.
