IN her exuberant dash to condemn the “incompetent response” of the British authorities to the terrorist attack on Glasgow airport, Terry Prone (July 2) wonders why Scotland Yard did not play its part in dealing with the plight of on-board passenger stranded on the apron.

The answer is simple: Scotland Yard is the HQ of London’s Metropolitan Police with no jurisdiction in Scotland. The name perhaps confounded Ms Prone, or maybe a reliance on 1940s’ detective fiction shaped her piece.
