Unequal citizens

ARTICLES 2 and 3 of the constitution used to declare that the whole island of Ireland formed a single ‘national territory’.

Under the Good Friday Agreement, the State amended articles 2 and 3 to remove reference to a ‘national territory’.

The amended articles guarantee the people of the North the right to be a ‘part of the Irish nation’ and to Irish citizenship, and therefore equality of citizenship. Perhaps another amendment is needed to exclude Sinn Féin voters, at least until they learn to vote for the right parties.
