THE comments by Dick Keane (Letters, May 11) on Martin McGuinness’s address on the opening day of the Northern Assembly couldn’t be further off the mark.

McGuinness only said what was expected

The Deputy First Minister’s brief remark that “we are on the way to a united Ireland” was what everyone would have expected him to say and was very appropriate for the day that was in it.

Mr McGuinness was merely stating a fact.
