ID register is first resort of the despot

I WAS horrified by the recent calls for ID cards to be issued to everyone over 18.

This would be a horrendous — and futile — intrusion into people’s lives.

1. ID cards will not stop underage drinking, prevent terrorism, reduce crime or stop fraud.
