System failure: Ahern is still defending the indefensible on e-voting

IF evidence was needed for the corruption of power, it was provided abundantly in the Taoiseach’s recent Dáil outburst on the attempt to introduce e-voting.

The system chosen by the Government was such that it would be impossible to verify that the votes counted were the votes cast.

In fact, the Government’s own commission declared it to have the potential to undermine the legitimacy of the electoral system.

Instead of apologising for attempting to introduce such a flawed system, however, the Taoiseach is still defending the indefensible.

On top of that he also had the temerity to declares that as a nation we are an international ‘embarrassment’.

We will be a far bigger embarrassment if we introduce a flawed e-voting system which the Taoiseach and his Government are still defending in the face of the facts.
