Garda Fallon murder - Public must insist on a full inquiry

The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors is supporting a call for a full inquiry into matters relating to the murder of Garda Richard Fallon on April 3, 1970.

Garda Fallon murder - Public must insist on a full inquiry

Although this issue has been highlighted in recent days as a result of some unsupported allegations attributed to the late garda’s brother about Taoiseach Bertie Ahern supposedly taking a briefcase full of money to Manchester in 1994, those allegations have no connection whatsoever with the murder of Garda Fallon. Hence they should not be allowed to influence or cloud the issue in any way.

The unanswered questions surrounding the murder of Garda Fallon are not recent; they go back more than 30 years. This case unfortunately became tainted very early on by the events of the Arms Crisis. Ministerial drivers believed the main suspect was helped to escape from the Dublin area in a ministerial car. This issue was raised in the Dáil as early as April 1971.
