Burning issue still a threat to Cork people

IT is very important the people of Cork realise that incineration company Indaver Ireland has not gone away.

The recent announcement that it was to abandon its plan to build incinerators at Ringaskiddy is not true. This is a cynical exercise to pressurise the Government to subsidise its lost cause, incineration.

Indaver has not withdrawn its planning permission and the waste licence remains in place, so Indaver could sell it on to another operator.

The only way it can be stopped is through the High Court. This is being addressed by Ringaskiddy residents and 11 other individuals on behalf of the citizens of Cork.

The true cost of incineration will not only affect our health but also our pockets. An incinerator at Ringaskiddy will emit almost 145,000 tonnes of CO2 per annum, adding 2,900,000 tonnes to Ireland’s CO2 output over 20 years, and taxpayers will be forced to pay for this.
