Opinion polls serve little purpose

I’M sure I’m not alone in being fed up reading about and listening to the results of opinion polls every few days, especially as each new one seems to contradict the last.

One recent poll showed Sinn Féin’s support in Dublin going up while another showed it going down. Which is right? Are any of them right? Does anyone care?

As far as I can see, the only people who get any pleasure out of these are political correspondents and radio presenters, who prefer to drone on about this stuff than deal with the real bread and butter issues facing us.
