Iraq: are US militias making a killing?
As the blog sites I’m referring to are anti-war, the inference is that US soldiers are responsible. This is quite possible.
As a recent BBC Panorama documentary revealed, the level of demoralisation in both the British and US armies is unprecedented in living memory.
However, there is another much more worrying scenario. The number of privatised military units or consultants (which is to say mercenaries in Orwellian Newspeak) in Baghdad now greatly outstrips the number of actual service personnel and it has occurred to me (as one of the few leftists who actually doesn’t advocate a withdrawal) that this will increase as a result of any ill- thought-out exit strategy.
Right-wing militias in the US may be cashing in on the privatisation of warfare the way they did in Nicaragua
— but on a much bigger scale.
These devils have been quiet since Oklahoma. I’d hate to think they’d joined al-Qaeda in using Iraq as a training ground.
