Pressure point
The Irish Nurses Organisation is demanding a 10% pay increase outside benchmarking and a reduction in weekly hours from 39 to 35, equivalent to another 10%.
In addition, any additional hours worked would carry an overtime premium of time-and-a-half.
Is it coincidental that the nurses timed their action eight weeks before a general election when health is the top policy issue?
I don’t think so.
