Airport debt exposes lack of political clout

AER Lingus had expansion plans for Dublin routes, but it has decided against putting another aircraft into Cork.

Shannon staff are getting record redundancy payouts because there are too many of them.

Cork staff and customers get nothing. So much for Cork’s influence with the decision-makers.

The Fianna Fáil árd fheis would not accommodate a motion to discuss the Cork airport debt. So much for Cork influence there.

The airport board appears to be helpless. It does not tell us what is going on. Why the secrecy? Dublin does not take them seriously.

In the meantime, Transport Minister Seamus Brennan has the cheek to pontificate about trust. What a short memory he has.

Maybe Roy Keane is right: Cork doesn’t matter.
