Politics of pollution

HERE in Co Mayo we have the jaded protests against the Corrib gas project with the unfounded scares about pollution, quality of drinking water, etc.

This at a time when our much respected EPA has announced an oral hearing into the Bellanaboy terminal, having already given it the green light with 85 conditions attached.

For myself, I am happy to leave those matters in the hands of the experts and accept their findings but, unfortunately, the protesters do not.

God forbid that any company like Shell should be responsible for the Galway situation where more than 100,000 people have no drinking water.

We would never hear the end of it, but it seems OK when farmers, the once-off rural housing brigade, or whoever, are to blame.
