Smear campaign won’t solve identity crisis

THE people of Corca Dhuibhne in west Kerry should support an agreement about the name of its principal town — An Daingean/Dingle/Daingean Ui Chúis.

Or maybe we should accept its diverse names. Kolkata was formerly known as Calcutta.

The recent smearing of Arts, Sport and Tourism Minister John O’Donoghue’s election poster with the slogan ‘Dingle abú’ is appalling behaviour. I believe Ministers O’Donoghue, Roche and Ó Cuiv are trying to expedite a solution.

I hope the people of Corca Dhuibhne reach a mature and peaceful agreement and resolve the difficulty before the coming of summer.
