Appeal of democracy

I WISH to respond to comments by Michael O’Flynn of O’Flynn Construction on the refusal of planning permission at Ballinglanna, Glanmire, Co Cork, by An Bord Pleanála (Irish Examiner, January 20).

Appeal of democracy

He said he was surprised as the land had been properly zoned through the “local democratic process” at Cork County Council and that Bord Pleanála had essentially over-ruled the council.

This land was rezoned developmental, despite pleas from residents to local councillors not to do so. The councillors obeyed the party whip and, in doing so, betrayed those who elected them to represent their interests.

As an objector to the rezoning and development of this unique landscape I had to appeal to an Bord Pleanála really to experience democracy. I was not disappointed.
