ENVIRONMENT Minister Dick Roche is faced with the twin problems of reducing carbon emissions and improving ground water quality.

How Roche can digest two problems at once

Why not solve these problems simultaneously by making it mandatory for each local authority in the State to build anaerobic digesters for sewage and slurry and, in the process, generate electricity which does not result in carbon emissions?

This has already been done in countries like Denmark where villages are powered by electricity generated locally using this method.
