Male victims still await fair share of resources

IN your editorial (Irish Examiner, January 18) you claim it was largely as a result of your three-part series on domestic violence that the Dáil Justice Committee held a hearing on this issue on January 17.

Male victims still await fair share of resources

First of all, this was not a hearing on domestic violence, but on violence against women. Representatives of male victims were not present or even told this hearing was taking place.

Since your series was published last November, Government funding for services for female victims has increased by €7.5 million, bringing their total annual funding to well in excess of €20 million per annum. It may be that your series also contributed to the Government’s decision substantially to increase funding under this heading.
