THE staff in Dublin’s Homeless Persons Unit who are employed by the Health Service Executive have asked us to express their concern about the continuing shortage of emergency accommodation in the greater city area.

Community welfare officers — members of IMPACT and SIPTU — run the unit and have statutory responsibility for the provision of shelter to homeless people.

An emergency freefone provides the most accessible frontline placement service in the city 365 days a year and it deals with up to 400 calls a night.
