Meaning is clear, but phrase is offensive

I AM writing this letter at my bedside in St James’ Hospital, Dublin, while recuperating from major surgery. One of the effects of this procedure is that my vision is unclear.

I am relying on radio for daily intake of news. One of the subjects coming up all the time concerns the many changes taking place in Ireland.

I have noticed that Pat Kenny, along with others, make constant reference to “the lunatics running the asylum”. I find this very disagreeable.
