Provisional ballot the answer to register problem

THE decision to revise the electoral register is timely and welcome. However, the news that over 500,000 voters have been struck off the draft register of electors means that come the general election, many eligible voters will not be able to exercise the franchise.

It seems many people did not understand they were supposed to return the registration form sent to them by local authorities.

They assumed that since they have always been on the register, they would remain there.
