Gas must come ashore as soon as possible

RICHARD MURPHY of Westmeath Environmental Group asks why Energy Minister Noel Dempsey would not visit Rossport to see things for himself (Irish Examiner letters, November 10).

Gas must come ashore as soon as possible

I can only assume Mr Murphy has visited the place himself. Those of us here on the ground are well aware that the terminal was through the planning process not once but twice, going to An Bord Pleanála on each occasion.

We also had the Advantica report into the safety of the project — they are renowned experts in the matter.

Now some people want to prevent the terminal construction, and on Friday last we had the spectacle of people being bussed in to prevent others going to work.

It is essential the gas comes ashore as soon as possible in these times of uncertain energy supply. All the expert advice is available to Minister Dempsey, and I have no doubt a visit to the area by him would not change anything.
