Baby Ann appeal - No winners in distressing case

There were no winners in the Baby Ann appeal in the Supreme Court yesterday, in what has been justly described as a “most difficult and distressing” case.

Now two-years-old, Baby Ann had been with her adoptive parents since she was three-months-old, and has been ordered by the Supreme Court to be returned to her natural parents.

The outcome of this appeal from the High Court, which had ruled the child would have been psychologically damaged had she been taken from her intended adoptive parents, is problematic for many reasons.
