Fishing lesson

YOUR editorial on the salmon drift-net ban (Irish Examiner, November 2) was right on the mark: if you don’t impose the drift-net ban and don’t make a concerted effort to clean up the rivers and surrounding waters, the ‘net’ result will be increased pollution and fewer fresh fish.

The Irish Government is making that effort and appealing to those in the fishing industry to do likewise.

The US could learn something from this.
