Garda cordon gives Shell the biggest boost

INTERESTING to see Kieran Sullivan of Kilmacthomas in Co Waterford and Amanda Sarah Kane of Blackhorse Avenue in Dublin (Irish Examiner letters, October 20) lecture from their respective safe homes the unfortunate people of Rossport, Co Mayo, who feel forced to protest for their families’ safety.

Mr Sullivan may be correct when he says the costly presence of so many gardaí at the Bellanaboy site entrance is not likely to encourage public sympathy.

He can be assured, however, that the costly presence of those same garda officers has also greatly boosted the confidence of the greedy and ruthless Shell oil company.
