Thumbs up for our health system

OUR Irish health system is alive, well and efficient. The attention I got from staff at Mercy Hospital in Cork for a hernia operation was superb.

From the time I was diagnosed, the hospital arranged the operation within a short period — and, as a medical card holder, the operation and aftercare was free.

Despite all the criticism of our health system, there must be thousands of good cases, like mine, where hospitals serve their patients to the highest standards. Health Minister Mary Harney and her department are serving our country well.
