Ditch the ‘dig-out’ and ‘debts of honour’
I have never had a dig-out at difficult times in my life, but then I am not a finance minister or holder of high office.
At the time, Bertie Ahern was earning around IR£73,000 per year (a lot of money even now), he had a State car and generous allowances. How do other people manage to survive in such circumstances?
There is an adage which goes: ‘When in a hole, stop digging.’ I wish some in Fianna Fáil would cop that on, as well as other things like ‘debts of honour’, etc.
