MUCH has been made of Bertie Ahern’s infamous loans from friends. However, no one has questioned his interest calculation of 3%.

Am I the only one who had a mortgage in 1993? Am I the only one who remembers repayments going up as high as 14% due to Mr Ahern’s quixotic efforts to defend our currency?

If Mr Ahern was being offered loans at 3% then it’s easy to understand why he accepted them.
