Why it’s safe to criticise Israel

I BELIEVE we have now got the message that Fintan Lane is most definitely not a fan of the state of Israel (Irish Examiner letters, September 14).

He is rather like Dr Ian Paisley in that you know exactly where you stand with him, and that is the best kind of enemy to have.

Unfortunately, that is not the situation with the people whom Mr Lane supports in the Middle East because lying to attain one’s objectives is a part of the local culture. He knows nothing about the history of the region and his only reason for joining in the debate is to have a go at the Israelis.
