Power play: if you want FF, vote PD
The Taoiseach said he had a deal with Mary Harney to complete their five-year term and he would expect the same commitment from her successor.
This he duly got from Mr McDowell.
Surely this guarantee from the so-called watchdog party is a blatant reneging on their pact with the electorate to keep Fianna Fáil in line.
The reality now is that a vote for the PDs is a vote to keep Fianna Fáil in power in perpetuity, regardless of what they get up to.
And a vote for FF is a vote for McDowell as Tánaiste.
He once said the PDs had to be radical or redundant.
They have ceased to be radical — it is time they (and their partners in power) were made redundant.
