Assent to genocide?

LAST week the president of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, called for the destruction of Israel.

He made the call in a speech to the Organisation of the Islamic Conference.

Did any of the conference’s 57 members speak against this stance? If they did, it has not been reported.

Has the French government revised its opinion that Iran is a stabilising influence in the Middle East? No, it has not.

It is amazing that this proposed genocide has provoked no comment here.

If an Israeli politician made a similar suggestion about a Muslim state, our politicians would be baying to the rafters, our anti-war groups would be staging ‘die-ins’ outside the Israeli embassy and the Israeli ambassador would be summoned to Iveagh House.

Is this silence assent to proposed genocide?
