Why should Gaeltacht residents abandon Irish just to accommodate the views of others?

Why should Gaeltacht residents abandon Irish just to accommodate the views of others?

Mr Fitzgerald says in his letter (Irish Examiner, August 4) that the language is marginal in the country as a whole.

Where I live the language of the district is Irish, and it is far from marginal. Is his point that the good people of this and neighbouring parishes and districts should abandon our language?
