Ticket auctions just a way to rip off fans

TICKET auctions — already in existence in Britain and the US — are coming to Ireland. This is a process where fans bid against each other for concert tickets or sporting events instead of just paying a flat fee to an outlet.

This raises the spectre of big companies ripping off willing consumers.

Promoters say it’s out of disgust at touts that auctions could be introduced and that they want to see real fans get to the gigs. But that’s just a smokescreen to rip people off. Fans having to prove financially how much they love a particular act is just not on.
