New laws for drivers will not change anything

When challenged about the length of time people have to wait for driving tests, he took the opportunity to remind people that the backlog had built up over several administrations.

May I now take the opportunity to remind Mr Cassidy that since the backlog was last cleared through the legendary amnesty in 1979 — incidentally brought in by a Fianna Fáil government — Fianna Fáil has been in government either alone or as the leader of a coalition for almost 20 of the 27 years, including nine of the past 10 years. The buck must stop with them.
