Middle East conflict - The EU must act quickly for ceasefire

The Israeli bombing that killed at least 60 civilians, including 37 children, in the southern Lebanese village of Qana has provoked international revulsion.

The Irish Government has been outspoken in its condemnation of the campaign in the Lebanon from the outset, by demanding an immediate ceasefire.

“We want action not words,” Foreign Minister Dermot Ahern declared yesterday. He has been calling on those who have influence on Israel and on those countries that have been backing Hezbollah to use their influence to stop the lunacy.
