Israel’s attack on UN post is indefensible
This post has been in position for many years, is prominently located, painted white and clearly marked as a UN position, and flies a large UN flag which is floodlit at night.
The Israeli military was well aware of the post’s precise location and was warned about its proximity many times on the day it was destroyed.
If this was an “accident”, it illustrates a breathtaking level of incompetence and a calamitous failure in leadership and training.
It is not the first time Israel has killed UN peacekeepers and struck UN positions in Lebanon — remember Qana and Brashit?
If there is any common decency left in the Israeli government, it will discipline those responsible accordingly.
