Ethiopia must withdraw from Somalia

WHILE the focus of the international community continues to be riveted on events in the Lebanon, another invasion recently occurred — this time on the African continent — with little public awareness.

Ethiopia must withdraw from Somalia

The armed forces of Ethiopia have invaded Somalia, placing its soldiers in two towns — Baidoa and Wajid.

This invasion was, of course, not sanctioned by the United Nations, and is a breach of international law.

Somalia, one of the poorest places on earth, can ill cope with such a flagrant act of hostility.

GOAL urges the Irish Government to use its influence with the Ethiopian authorities to persuade them to withdraw their army from Somalia soil without delay.

The Irish Government has constantly stressed the strong influence it holds with Ethiopian authorities, given the fact we channel in excess of €30million, through Government institutions, in aid grants each year.
