MOBILE phone roaming charges are set to be slashed — but European Commissioners including Charlie McCreevy are opposing the move.

The commission will today announce proposals to cap the wholesale roaming charges imposed by telecom operators in Europe, a commission official said.

The regulations will not be implemented before summer 2007 and could be enforced as much as a year after this date.
