One of the greatest days in Irish sport

HAVING attended many senior Munster hurling finals, I have no doubt this is one of the greatest days in the Irish sporting calendar.

And when it’s in Thurles, there’s an extra special dimension to this great occasion. In a traditional Cork v Tipperary final, such as last Sunday’s, nothing compares to the atmosphere, passion and great rivalry that exists between these two great hurling counties.

Even the huge buzz when both sets of supporters mingle in the town square prior to the game is something special.

Long live this special day in Irish sport. Any plans to end the Munster (or indeed Leinster) hurling final could be a disaster for the championship.
