Send them packing and elect one real leader

I HAVE become increasingly sceptical about the integrity of government at all levels, and the corrupt and inefficient way our state is run?

Do we need ministers who appoint their own cronies or party faithful to semi-state boards regardless of qualifications for the job?

Are ministers themselves suitably qualified?

Do we want a government that cannot make decisions about even the most trivial issues for months and sometimes years, costing us millions as a result?

Do we need so many TDs whose main concern, once they are elected, is to try to ensure, by whatever means, that they are re-elected?

Can we afford a government that makes hugely expensive investment mistakes like e-voting and the health boards’ payroll system, etc?

Do we need a Taoiseach who knew that 80 votes were cast from a single address in his own constituency, but has taken no action on the matter?

Do we want a government that continues to allow our farmland to remain idle while we still pay the farmers? We have so many willing farmers who could be growing crops to produce biofuels to replace expensive imported oil?

Why not elect just one man or woman of integrity, vision, and skill with a dynamic work ethic to run the state — unencumbered by political parties, TDs, or cronyism — for, say, five years and then leave office?

I, for one, would favour such a radical change.
