Teen sex and emotional blackmail

YOU treated us to a two-page spread on teenagers and sex that showed clearly the bankruptcy of the liberal/permissive agenda (Irish Examiner, May 26).

We were given the views of several ‘experts’.

We were told many young teenagers are under intense peer pressure to engage in casual sex, including its perverted forms.

Many young girls, we were informed, feel they must comply to retain their good standing with boyfriends. In other words, they are falling for the oldest emotional blackmail in the world.

So much for decades of liberation and feminism — girls are being exploited to satisfy the selfish lusts of males more than ever before.

And what is the solution offered by the experts? Nothing but yet more explicit sex education and the provision of condoms.

There is not a single country where the widespread use of condoms has not led to an increase, rather than a decrease, in teen pregnancies. The reason is obvious — it gives the males yet another weapon in their emotional blackmail of females.

As for peer pressure, is it inconceivable that we should be working to educate young people not to ruin their lives on the basis of such trivial things? Should we not be working to help the young develop a counter-culture to defeat this ‘peer pressure’?

Many readers will have been shocked that the practices to be encouraged by our would-be educators include oral sex among teenagers.

It is the experience of millennia that saturating oneself in sensuality leads not to happiness but to depression and, ultimately, despair.

These practices, and the exploitation of the young, are repugnant to all the major religions.

When Christ was on the earth, he warned that fornicators and corrupters of the youth would go to hell.

It is time for us to stop this insanity and begin again to teach our young that Christ died to free us from the bondage of sin; that virginity is possible and beautiful; that young girls are to be respected and cherished, not used as fodder for the selfish lusts of men.
