Why Howard was honoured by UCD

TONY DOHERTY (Irish Examiner letters, May 26) wanted to know the reasons why Australian Prime Minister John Howard has been granted an honorary fellowship of the Literary & Historical Society at UCD.

Could it be in recognition of the fact that he is now the second longest serving Australian prime minister ever?

In the country with the most democratic voting system in the world, this is an outstanding popular endorsement of his policies.
