Maclise exhibition planned by gallery

FOLLOWING the success of the James Barry exhibition, the Crawford Art Gallery in Cork is preparing a similar project highlighting the achievements of Daniel Maclise (1806-1870).

Born in Cork, Maclise was one of the first students at the Cork School of Art.

Moving to London in 1826, he became part of the Fraserian Circle, a literary and artistic group that included William Maginn, Crofton Crocker and William Makepeace Thackeray.
