Objectors should allow marina to go ahead

HAVING lived abroad for many years I feel I have come home and finally put down my roots in the lovely town of Cobh in Cork harbour.

Objectors should allow marina to go ahead

I consider it a real diamond that just needs a little bit of polishing.

Perhaps I see the town more objectively, being one of the more recent blow-ins, and when I heard that a marina was planned, I believed this would be the start of its renaissance.

A marina could only enhance local trade and give rise to many opportunities in the catering industry, hospitality sector, shops and boutiques, as well as giving existing businesses a much needed boost.

But I cannot fathom how a small group of objectors can compromise the future of the town.

One has only to look at Kinsale as a comparison, and Cobh has potential equal to that of its neighbouring harbour town.

I would implore the objectors to view the many positive aspects of the proposed marina and withdraw their submissions immediately.

I am proud to live in this beautiful town, but I am saddened by its general air of apathy and indifference.

Cobh needs a lift and Cork harbour desperately needs another marina. Crosshaven and Kinsale are full to capacity and Marlogue, with totally inadequate mooring facilities, has a waiting list of more than 100 boats.

Never has the saying ā€œa rising tide will lift all boatsā€ been more apt.
