How will Gaybo get us to change our ways?

I SYMPATHISE with Gay Byrne in his new role trying to change our behaviour on the roads.

Every day one sees examples of the contempt with which people behind the wheel regard their fellow human beings.

This attitude, however, is not confined to road behaviour. It is part of the spirit of the age.

The motto is arrogance will get you everywhere. The spindoctors would probably use the euphemism ‘self-assertion’.

Whatever you call it, this arrogance permeates all levels of society from reality TV and soaps, to the rip-off merchants in business, to the brazeness of politicians, to gutter journalism, to office and school bullies.

Gay Byrne has taken on a job that the spindoctors would probably class as ‘challenging’.

I wish him well in his thankless task.
