Fine Gael Árd Fheis - Plans must be matched in practice

The get-tough image that emerged from the Fine Gael Árd Fheis at the weekend may very well be what people want to hear, but translating that into practicalities can be a very different, and difficult, ambition.

In the areas of health, justice and the monumental waste of money by the Government, FG leader Enda Kenny had no problem in striking a populist chord, but as of now all he can do is promise to do better with his putative coalition of the Labour Party.

Mr Kenny’s “voice of the people” thread running through his speech will appeal to an electorate whose voice does not apparently seem to be heard, certainly not since the last general election.
