By Noel Whelan IN 1997 the former British Foreign Secretary Douglas Hurd, now Lord Hurd, made a series of TV documentaries for the BBC called 'The Search for Peace.'

These explored the efforts made by international diplomacy to secure lasting peace in the modern world.

I missed the TV programmes at the time, but I recently read the book by Hurd which accompanied the series It makes interesting reading, especially in the context of the current debate about war in Iraq.
